Welcome to the online course designed to prepare you for the Private Pilot Airplane Airman Certification Standards (ACS). This course will provide you with the aeronautical knowledge and risk management strategies necessary to obtain your private pilot certification in the airplane category.
This course is structured around the Areas of Operation and Tasks detailed in the ACS document. It will help you integrate aeronautical knowledge and risk management which are all required for safe operation in the National Airspace System (NAS).
Throughout this course, you will learn to:
- Demonstrate satisfactory knowledge, risk management, and skills associated with pilot qualifications.
- Understand airworthiness requirements, including airplane certificates and required inspections.
- Use available aviation weather resources to obtain an adequate weather briefing.
- Prepare and explain a cross-country flight plan, including a risk analysis.
- Identify and comply with requirements for basic VFR weather minimums and operations in various airspace classes.
- Operate an airplane safely within its performance capabilities and limitations.
- Understand and apply human factors related to flight safety.
- Perform preflight assessments and inspections to ensure safe flight.
- Execute proper engine starting procedures.
- Demonstrate proficiency in taxiing, takeoff, landing, and go-around procedures, including normal, soft-field, and short-field operations.
- Navigate using pilotage, dead reckoning, and navigation systems.
- Maneuver the aircraft proficiently during slow flight, stalls, and basic instrument maneuvers.
- Manage emergency operations, including emergency descents, simulated engine failures, and system malfunctions.
- Demonstrate proficiency in night operations.
- Execute proper postflight procedures, including after landing, parking, and securing the aircraft.
